About ABWE
ABWE President - Dr. Michael Loftis
Dr. Loftis grew up as the son of a pastor and missionary church planter on the Caribbean island of Jamaica. He later returned to the USA to pursue academic training at Tennessee Temple University, Temple Baptist Seminary, with further studies at Indiana University and the Goethe Institute. He holds the B.A., M.R.E., M.Div., and D.R.E. degrees, with majors in Bible, Church Ministry, and Christian Education as well as an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Baptist Bible College and Seminary in Clarks Summit, PA. He served on the faculty of Temple Baptist Seminary from 1979–1989.
When Dr. Loftis and his wife, Jo Beth, began their ministry with ABWE in 1988, they were the first ABWE missionaries focusing on reaching the Iron Curtain countries of Eastern Europe. During their twelve years of overseas leadership, they established a ministry team that grew to 70 career missionaries serving in 9 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Dr. Loftis served as the ABWE Executive Director of Central and Eastern Europe from 1990–2000.
Dr. Loftis became the President of ABWE on March 1, 2001. Having lived and served in four foreign countries as well as the United States, the Loftises now make their home near New Cumberland, PA. They have three adult children and one grandson.
