Cornerstone University & the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism
Joint Public Statement
Dr. Joseph Stowell III, President of Cornerstone University, and Dr. Michael Loftis, President of ABWE International, Inc. announce the following:
We jointly declare our gratitude to God as we celebrate together this year the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of a productive partnership of mission agencies and a Christian University in the ministry of Asia Baptist Theological Seminary (ABTS). This Seminary began in the Philippines as a joint vision of Cornerstone Professors as well as missionary educators serving with ABWE and Baptist Mid-Missions and has provided theological grounding and leadership training to a generation of Asian Christian leaders in many Asian nations at the Master's degree level.
We wish to commend the faculty, missionaries, and leadership of Asia Baptist Theological Seminary, for your twenty-five years of faithful and dedicated service. This ministry has existed through the sacrifice and efforts of many partners who dreamed, prayed, gave generously, and labored to advance the cause of the gospel. Worthy of special mention are Norm and Louise Barnard and Bob and Esther Howder who have labored tirelessly on behalf of hundreds of ABTS students through the years.
Having reviewed the 2007 Commission Report, we have decided to continue our partnership in order to accomplish a bold new vision that we believe will have a strategic impact in Asia and around the world. We desire to train leaders who will be equipped to be leaders of church planting and missions movements from Asia to the rest of the world. We have appointed and authorized a new board and the search for a new President with the gifts to lead ABTS to address the new challenges of the 21st Century.
