Answers to Prayer

BRAZIL. Lynell Smith and Laura Fouser. Ariane placed her faith in Christ as Savior at an evangelistic Bible study with Lynell in September. Ariane was so excited that she told several people over that weekend including her sister-in-law who was then encouraged to finish the same evangelistic study she was doing with Laura Fouser. Lynell has started a discipleship Bible study with Ariane on Tuesdays. Her sister-in-law commented that Ariane is a different person. On Wednesday, October 8, Ariane's sister-in-law Andreia also trusted in Christ! She has already been changing in amazing ways, especially in the area of learning to be the wife that God would have her to be. Please pray for Andreia's spiritual growth and for the salvation of her husband Rodrigo and her daughters Amanda (10) and Ana Beatriz (5).

TOGO

Peter and Janice Maybury have been in their new ministry location, Mango, for almost two months. They are engaged in language study and learning how to live and shop for their needs. They also spent some time looking at possible land for the hospital that will be built in Mango. Please pray that God would direct them to the land that will work well for the hospital, and that they could easily become the legal owners of that land.

Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico

NICARAGUA

Steve and Terri Robinson. Steve traveled with the church planting team to Las Flores for a day of evangelism. They had a good day of sharing and getting to know the people in this rural community better. Three people made a profession of faith. Last week they held the fourth session of the Institute of Church Planters. The men spent the first two days learning about the necessary vision for a church planting movement, the spiritual characteristics of a church planter, and how to start cell groups. Then the last two days they were joined by others to learn about a newly published ABWE paradigm for evangelism and discipleship called The Good Soil. Please pray for all the students, teachers, and missionaries involved in this module.

SLOVAKIA

Jerry and Susan Hamann. The first weekend of Training on the Way classes went very well. The students asked many good questions and showed a good understanding of the material Jerry taught on Marriage and Family counseling. Please continue to pray that these leaders will be able to utilize this understanding in their daily ministry. English classes have gotten off to a good start. Wednesday nights the Hamanns have 13 students in intermediate classes, and Thursday nights they have another 11 students. Most of these students are unbelievers. Please pray for Susan as she does most of the preparation for these classes. Pray that the Lord will give good opportunities to witness to the students.

UKRAINE

Sharon Rahilly joined Dr. Miriam Wheeler and David and Penny Winget for a week of clinic ministry. There were many opportunities to share the gospel while meeting the needs of hurting people. They held clinics in homes of believers, where Ukrainian pastors lead weekly Bible studies. The team also held a week of clinics in another area. They saw over 500 patients and many were challenged to consider salvation. Two people professed faith in Christ. David and Penny have just finished a major remodeling job at their church meeting place which was in desperate need of repair. Much of the plaster had simply fallen off the walls. Fellow missionaries from Russia, Aaragon and Malinda Markwell, had to come to Ukraine for 90 days while waiting for their living permits in Russia. Aaragon is a professional drywaller. With his help, the work was done in a fraction of the time, and with much better quality.

JAPAN

Tom and Paula Carr (furlough). Kirya Khan was in charge of the service in Miyakonojo last Sunday and is doing a good job of leading and preaching. Pray that the Lord would continue to work in his and his wife's hearts regarding possible full-time future ministry. Miss Kiyoko and Mr. K continue to attend church regularly. Continue to pray that Kiyoko will have the courage to go public with her profession and that Mr. K will come to know the Lord.

Pedro and Stephanie Garcia’s son, Owen, broke his leg on October 1 and will be in a cast for six to eight weeks. Pedro is teaching at the seminary as well as his other responsibilities at the MK school, in addition to resuming his Sunday School series on the book of Acts. A family trip planned to Iquique for the purpose of confirming housing and schooling is currently on hold, pending the situation with Owen’s leg.

Marilyn Scraver is seeking the Lord’s direction about starting a Bible study in her apartment complex. She will be in Greece and Hungary for the next two weeks. Pray for her trip and then that the Lord will point her to the right way to begin this study.

Jerrold and Sue Ann Thomas’s (International Ministries) daughter, Lisa Boatman, has been diagnosed with lymphoma. Please pray for healing, for wisdom, and for the situation of her two young boys (she is single mom in her early 30's). More testing is scheduled to identify the specific type of cancer.
