Answers to Prayer

BRAZIL. Steve and Mendi Everett. Luana has been coming to the high school youth group for a couple of months. Through various people who have reached out to her and through the teaching of the Word, Luana accepted Christ last Saturday.

Africa

TOGO

Peter and Janice Maybury
(Mango) are focusing on language study. Anna Chubb has arrived and has started classes with Benjamin and Victoria. They are encouraged that Mr Awanou, their guard, has been doing some studying with Peter, and he seems interested in God’s Word. They are praying that he will come to understand how he can have a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus. They are involved in locating land for the new hospital. Pray also for the needed staff for the Mango hospital.

Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico

NICARAGUA

Andy and Diane Large (mini-furlough). The Nicaraguan believers are working hard this month with a project towards the property purchase and church building. November 23 will be the Harvest of the Mustard Seed Envelopes of Faith Sunday. They have been using ingenious means to do what they can to raise the funds. Pray that the owners of the building the church is now renting will allow them to stay there through March 2009. The Larges are lacking about $300 in monthly support.

Eastern Europe

HUNGARY

Pat and Tina Curby have committed to teaching a Monday night beginner English class at Érd this year. Please pray for them as they try to develop relationships and that the participants would begin to want more than just a knowledge of English. Pray they will be open to hearing more about God and His Word. Tina is teaching five courses at the Christian school this year. Please pray for her as she tries to be an enthusiastic teacher and a godly example to her students.

SLOVAKIA

Jeff and Jodi Demerly have realized that Jodi’s health problems are very possibly related to stress. Please pray as they rethink Jodi's schedule and responsibilities. Training on the Way weekend is November 22-23. Pray for teachers who are preparing lessons and materials, and that more of God's people will be equipped and encouraged for ministry as a result of their weekend together.

Europe

PORTUGAL

Gil and Denise Thomas (furlough). Gill will make a trip to Portugal for a strategic planning session to be held on November 21-22. Andy and Maria Cook will be in Portugal at that same time to survey the field as they consider a missionary ministry there. Andy has served as a pastor in New York for the past ten years. Pray for Ray to grow in Christ as Gil disciples him with The Way to Joy.

SPAIN

Roy and Nancy Jones. Roy has been teaching a course called Balancing the Christian Life. It's an enjoyable experience and an opportunity to spend some time with future leaders of the church in Spain. This year there were nine students. There were two Spaniards, one Moroccan, one Rumanian, one Brazilian, and four South Americans. They have made many acquaintances in Campo Real and have become close with two families, the Duarte family and the Martinez family. One of the wives is now going with Nancy to ladies' Bible study on Tuesdays in Coslada, and they also study together once a week. Pray for this family that they will desire to develop a closer relationship with the Lord. The Martinez family lives in their neighborhood and has also attended several activities in Coslada. They are praying that God will continue to give more opportunities to share the gospel especially as the holiday season approaches.

Far East

MONGOLIA

Becky McGregor is teaching a seven-week intermediate English class on grammar and writing at Mongolia International University. Pray that she will develop good relationships with the class. Beginning November 9, Becky will be teaching an evangelistic Bible study. Her prayer partner, Sodnom, wants to come and help with the class. This will be a special blessing as some of the students do not know English well enough to fully understand. The class will be called “FAQ’s” (frequently asked questions) about Christianity.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA

Bill and Lori Smith. The National Pastors’ Conference is planned for next week. The host pastor nearly lost his wife through complications in childbirth. Some of the food for the conference has been stolen. Pray for Bill and Lori as they prepare for their teaching sessions, as well as all the other guest speakers. Church leaders have been voted in and all are eager to work together at Rapture Baptist Church. They now need a national pastor to shepherd this flock. Pray that God will lead them to the right man

PHILIPPINES

Craig and Elaine Kennedy continue to meet with Jack and Karla Siao for Bible study. God is at work in Jack’s hometown (Iligan City) and in the lives of some of his relatives. Pastor Israel V. Bajan desires to use the same chronological Bible study that the Kennedys have used with Jack and Karla. They have four Filipino-Chinese who desire a Bible study in Iligan City. Pray for that Iligan Bible study! Pray as well for continuing coordinating with STIR-Asia and ABWE-Philippines. Craig is teaching a course on Baptist History and Belief during November through March at Baptist Bible Seminary and Institute (BBSI). Elaine has been asked to help one day a week with an English 2 class in a local Filipino-Chinese college.

South America

BRAZIL

Dr. Chip and Laurie Phillips have seen progress in getting their donated dental equipment through customs. The items went through a formal inspection in October. The final step involves the tax department. As they begin a new, four-year term of service in Brazil, they are committed to a couples’ ministry at their church, discipleship programs for the poorly literate, mentoring new missionary couples, and administrative and other duties at the Amazon Baptist Hospital.

Steve and Mendi Everett. There are two kids who come to Awana whose parents don't come to church. These kids are in a terrible, hurtful situation and the mom is suffering from post-partum depression. The kids are possibly in danger of being removed from the house, which would mean that they would be placed into orphanages or shelters. Mendi, the church youth pastor, and a lady from their church who is a neighbor will be going to this house to make contact with the mom this week.

Laura Fouser left with her mom on November 7 for a week of ministry in Peru with the Joni and Friends' "Wheels for the World" ministry. Laura will be a translator and her mom will be general help. They will be working alongside American and Peruvian team members (physical and occupational therapists as seating specialists, mechanics, translators, evangelists, and general help) to serve the Lord by fitting and distributing donated and refurbished wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches to people who need them. Each family is also given a Bible in their own language, and a Peruvian shares the gospel message with them.

Home Office

Jesse and Joyce Eaton
(Director of Post-Field Interpersonal Ministries) were able to visit with Mrs. Geraldine Weeks a few days before her husband, John, passed on to heaven earlier this year. John and Gerry were missionaries in Martinique with EBM and then in France with ABWE. The Eatons are serving in their local church through pastoral care ministries, Bible studies, and befriending internationals from Asia.

Dr. Larry and Jacqui Armstrong (missionaries at large) have reported to several supporting churches in recent weeks. They have a ministry of shipping used books to pastors in the Philippines. They are currently in Sydney, Australia, through November 22. They are teaching there for the Asian Baptist Theological Seminary.
