Serve with ABWE
Europe: Germany
Germany, a beautiful land dotted by picturesque old villages and castles, has not been trapped in the past. Progress and cutting-edge technology are woven into the daily fabric of life. Self-sufficiency, however, is often gained at the cost of spiritual vitality. Though 65% of Germans maintain the traditional church membership (Catholic or Protestant) into which they are born, less than 5% of them attend church on a regular basis. Attendance is normally limited to Christmas and Easter or important social events such as weddings and funerals. Muslims comprise 4% of the population. Less than 2% of the population is composed of Bible-believing Christians.
Since 2007, when the church-plant in Vellmar/Kassel (located in the geographic center of the country) became independent, AWBE has concentrated its efforts in Kusel which is located on the western side of Germany near France and Luxembourg. ABWE's goal in Germany is to establish churches, which will become fully operated by German believers as they are equipped through evangelism, discipleship, and leadership training.
Because of the nature of the country and its people, missionaries must demonstrate maximum perseverance and teamwork, willing cultural immersion, and a strong faith in God.
