DiSC Inventory
DiSC is a popular system for analyzing personal behavioral tendencies, based upon a four quadrant model of behavioral styles. The DiSC personal profile inventory allows people to examine their typical behavioral responses in specific situations within their environment. Millions of people worldwide have used DiSC and have found it to be a helpful tool to understand themselves, as well as to understand others.
The DiSC self-report inventory is not a psychological instrument and it does not purport to measure personalities or temperaments. It simply describes the way that a person tends to react or behave in certain situations. As such, it is a valuable resource for individuals who want to know themselves better, for couples who want to improve their relationships, and for team members who want to develop more productive and harmonious teamwork.
- Dominance: People who score high in the intensity of the D styles factor are very active in dealing with problems and challenges, while low D scores are people who want to do more research before committing to a decision. High D people are described as demanding, forceful, egocentric, strong willed, driving, determined, ambitious, aggressive, and pioneering. Low D scores describe those who are conservative, low keyed, cooperative, calculating, undemanding, cautious, mild, agreeable, modest and peaceful.
- Influence: People with High I scores influence others through talking and activity and tend to be emotional. They are described as convincing, magnetic, political, enthusiastic, persuasive, warm, demonstrative, trusting, and optimistic. Those with Low I scores influence more by data and facts, and not with feelings. They are described as reflective, factual, calculating, skeptical, logical, matter of fact, sometimes pessimistic.
- Steadiness: People with High S styles scores want a steady pace, security, and don’t like sudden change. Low S intensity scores are those who like change and variety. High S persons are calm, relaxed, patient, possessive, predictable, deliberate, stable, consistent, and tend to be unemotional and poker faced. People with Low S scores are described as restless, demonstrative, impatient, eager, or even impulsive.
- Conscientious: Persons with High C styles adhere to rules, regulations, and structure. They like to do quality work and do it right the first time. High C people are careful, cautious, exacting, neat, systematic, diplomatic, accurate, and tactful. Those with Low C scores challenge the rules and want independence and are described as self-willed, stubborn, opinionated, unsystematic, arbitrary, and careless with details.1
Of course, no one is a pure D, i, S, or C. Everyone is some blended combination of the four styles. And since behavior is changeable, especially with God’s powerful work in our lives, believers have the divinely-enabled capacity to overcome behavioral tendencies that might tend to be negative.
Using DiSC with individual missionaries and teams
ABWE has been using the DiSC system for several years with incoming missionary candidates and with entire field teams. Many missionary couples have expressed appreciation for the role that DiSC has played in helping them to understand each other. Numerous ABWE missionary teams have reported that DiSC has helped them to understand one another much better and has resulted in more productive team ministry.

- Team leader registers team members as a group and signs up for a composite report (list each missionary to be included in the composite report)
- Team leader receives individual profile reports as inventories are completed
- Team leader contacts CEIM (shaston@abwe.org) once individual profiles have been completed for a composite team report
Cost: $30 + $20 per individual
